Nissan to retire the R35 GT-R after 17 years of production
We knew this day would eventually arrive but somehow we never really thought of preparing for it. After being in production for 17 long years and after plenty of special edition versions, Nissan will finally seize production of the R35 GT-R in the USA which is one of the very last countries where the GT-R is still on sale. To commemorate the occasion, Nissan has announced that they will launch two special editions of the car - T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition.
Better known as 'Godzilla' among the community, the R35 generation of the car has been in production since 2007. These new limited editions (said to be fewer than 200) will pay homage to the performance vehicle that has been an icon of the Nissan lineup.
The GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition honours the Takumi master craftspeople responsible for hand-assembling each GT-R engine. It has an interior of Mori Green and an exterior finish of Midnight Purple. A gold VIN plate will be located in the engine bay, and the engine badge honouring the Takumi will have red-etched text.
The GT-R Skyline Edition, which pays homage to the immense beauty seen in Japanese skylines, has a gorgeous new Sora Blue interior colour scheme in addition to Bayside Blue paint. Bayside Blue, is a colour most people would associate the legendary R34-generation GT-R with. The colour was retired after that and was revived in 2019 for the 50th anniversary edition model. Both cars also feature the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 delivers the same 573PS and 633Nm of torque.
Regarding the future of the GT-R name, Nissan stated "While the R35 GT-R leaves an unforgettable legacy, Nissan is now hyperfocused on the future and the next era of exciting innovation in performance." We hear that a new generation GT-R with an electric powertrain is in the works and will only debut but the end of the decade.
