Nissan to unveil the Terrano compact SUV in India on August 20
Nissan's much awaited compact SUV, the Terrano will be unveiled in India on August 20. The unveiling, the company says, will happen in Mumbai.
Nissan sketch
The Terrano is to Nissan what the Duster is to Renault. Based on the same platform as the Renault Duster, the Terrano will have the option of a single petrol and diesel engine with the latter coming in two different power outputs. While the 1.6-litre petrol engine boasts of 104PS, the 1.5 turbodiesels will be offered as 85 and 110PS units. All the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Nissan could even offer the X-tronic CVT transmission from the Sunny and recently launched Micra automatics. However, we will have to wait till the actual unveil to find this out.
The Terrano's rear is significantly different than the Duster
From the outside, unlike other badge-engineered products from the Renault-Nissan coalition, the Terrano looks very different from the Duster. At least that is what the sketches lead us to believe. The front has a distinctive Nissan-ish SUV grille and the alloys are also different. A recent sketch of the rear shows the Terrano to have different tail lamps than the Duster as well. Inside though, apart from the badges, there will be minimal changes and expect the top-end Terrano to come with optional leather seats. While Renault has a 4x4 Duster for the export markets, expect Nissan to offer a 4x4 for the Indian Terrano before the former does. Also, the Nissan will be priced around Rs 50-70,000 more than the corresponding Duster trim.
Expect the Terrano to be on sale by September.
