One-millionth unit of the Jeep Wrangler JK leaves from the US
Perhaps the most iconic of SUVs, the Jeep Wrangler JK's millionth unit has rolled out of its Toledo assembly plant. Since its debut in 1986, the current SUV is the third-generation one and the first to use the JK moniker. This new-gen SUV first broke cover in 2007 and saw a refresh in 2010. The refresh brought along with it numerous options and different trim levels for each strata of buyers of the Wrangler JK. Infact, with the rising number of embellishments offered, Jeep Wrangler JK sales soared to an all-time high figure of 140,000 in 2012. Chrysler also has been offering the new-age 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar engine with the JK Wrangler and this has also helped boost the sales. Then there is the 2.8-litre diesel engine, the one which is most likely to make its way to the Indian market. Chrysler is expected to give the Wrangler line a refresh sometime around 2015 possibly with updated engines and transmissions.
The Jeep Wrangler can be ordered in different configurations â" two-door, four door and the convertible/hardtop versions. In India, it is expected that Wrangler's performance store Mopar will be offering kits to further deck up the Jeeps.
