Jaguar Land Rover, which Tata Motors owns, will now begin producing its legendary Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles in India. This is the first time in 54 years that these models will be made outside the United Kingdom. JLR's Chakan facility will now build the 3-litre petrol LWB Autobiography and 3-litre diesel LWB HSE variants of the Range Rover, as well as the 3-litre petrol and diesel Dynamic SE variant of the Range Rover Sport.

India will be the first country to manufacture the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, joining the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport, produced locally at JLR's factory in Pune. Due to local production the price of the 2 SUVs are now also down with the Range Rover Sport now starting at Rs 1.40 crore and the Range Rover at Rs 2.36 crore.

The locally produced Range Rover will be available with two engine options: a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol delivering 398PS and 550Nm, and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel producing 350PS and 700Nm. The domestically produced Range Rover Sport will be available with the same 3-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 4.4-litre V8 SV Edition will continue to be imported.

JLR has also announced the launch of the 'Range Rover House' in Alibaug, a seaside town on the Konkan Coast. The Range Rover House will include some of the first Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles to be made in India, specifically for the Indian market.

Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director of Range Rover, said, "Across the globe, we're seeing the highest levels of client demand for Range Rover, in our 53-year history. This is an unprecedented success story and India is a very important part of it. Retail sales in India, for FY24 alone, have surged by 160%, and locally manufacturing the Range Rover will enable the brand to respond to this growing demand among discerning clients and celebrated personalities across the country."
