River launches Indie electric scooter in India at Rs 1.25 lakh
Bangalore-based electric vehicle (EV) start-up River has launched the Indie electric scooter in India at Rs 1.25 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom and after FAME-II subsidy). The River Indie is available in a single variant. Notably, it promises a travel range of 120km on a full charge. River has also opened pre-bookings for the electric scooter today with deliveries scheduled to commence in August this year.
River Indie: Design
The Indie features a unique design language. The twin-pod boxy LED headlights, square-shaped LED daytime running lights, slim rectangular-shaped taillight, a pair of 14-inch wheels, and vivid colours dominate the overall design of the electric scooter. In addition, the Indie features crash guards, front foot pegs, pannier mounts, a luggage rack, and a motorcycle-inspired clip-on style handlebar.
On top of that, the highlight of the Indie is its 55 litres storage capacity, comprising 43 litres of under-seat storage and 12 litres of front glove box storage. The glove box also features a USB charging port. Meanwhile, River offers the EV in a choice of three paint options: Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow.
River Indie: Specifications and Features
Apart from the large 14-inch wheels, the Indie is equipped with a 240mm disc at the front and a 200mm disc at the rear, telescopic front forks, and twin hydraulic rear suspension. It has a ground clearance of 165mm. Further, the electric scooter comes with a six-inch instrument console, a hazard light switch, app connectivity, three riding modes (Eco, Ride, and Rush), two USB ports, and a reverse park assist.
River Indie: Range, battery, and charging
The Indie is powered by a 4kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that produces 6.7kW (9.1PS) and 26Nm of torque. With this, it has a range of 120km. The electric scooter can achieve 0-40kmph in 3.9 seconds and provides a top speed of 90kmph. Moreover, the standard charger can charge it from zero to 80 per cent in a claimed five hours. Plus, it also supports fast charging. Meanwhile, the company provides five years/50,000km warranty on the Indie and its battery pack.
River has a manufacturing facility in Hoskote, Karnataka, with a production capacity of 1 lakh units annually. This plant can also assemble 1 lakh battery packs every year. While this facility spreads across 1,20,000 sq. ft., the River R&D centre in Whitefield, Bangalore, spans 70,000 sq. ft. Further, the brand plans to sell the Indie in five cities this year.
