Rolls Royce Ghost Series II makes global debut
Introducing the revised and improved Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, the company's entry-level luxury sedan. The update includes considerable improvements to the external appearance, and the inside has been upgraded with a new digital interface and a clock replete with a Spirit of Ecstasy decoration. This model is expected to be among the last from the British marquee to employ a V12 engine.
Updated headlights and daytime running lights are added to the Ghost Series II, along with an illuminated Pantheon grille. There are new tail lights with subtle 'R' monograms. Customers can choose from two new 22-inch, 9-spoke wheel designs. One is polished while the other is partly polished.
The company's Bespoke service offers over 44,000 different hues, but now Mustique Blue is a new addition to the palette.
A redesigned full-width glass panel inside houses the marque's Spirit operating system-powered central media screen. This makes it possible to match the digital instrument panel's colour to the car's appearance. There is also a 1,400-watt sound system with eighteen speakers, some concealed in the headliner as well.
Whispers, a Rolls-Royce app that enables remote functioning via a linked smartphone to lock or unlock doors, send navigation info, or track the car's location is also new. An analogue clock and a mirror-polished figurine are housed on the dashboard in a new Spirit of Ecstasy cabinet.
Sustainable interior materials are now offered, including a new fabric called "Duality Twill" and a trim option of grey-stained ash wood. Rolls claims that this new textile choice took years to design and requires 2.2 million stitches and 11 miles of thread, adding 20 hours to the manufacturing time. It is composed of bamboo, a material that is known for being highly sustainable.
The Ghost Series II lineup also includes a long-wheelbase model that adds 6.7 inches of space for rear-seat passengers and a sporty Black Badge model that gains more power, a more responsible braking system, and a suspension system tuned for greater agility.
Similar to the Series I, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II is powered by a 6.8-liter V-12 twin-turbo engine that produces 571PS and 850Nm of torque. All-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission will come standard with this powerplant. The Black Badge uses the same powertrain but is tuned to produce 600 PS and 900 Nm of torque.
