Royal Enfield to unveil five new 450cc motorcycles

Team OD Updated: December 05, 2022, 11:11 PM IST

Royal Enfield is rumoured to be developing five new bikes that will feature the new 450cc engine and platform, which will further diversify its current portfolio of motorcycles.

RE's eagerly anticipated Himalayan 450 could be the first of these five new models to arrive, sometime in the first quarter of 2023, followed by a Roadster, Scrambler, Cafe Racer, and a rugged off-road version of the Himalayan 450. Along with the Himalayan 450, all motorcycles are expected to benefit from the new liquid-cooled 450cc engine.

It is not a rumour anymore that Royal Enfield has been developing a new Himalayan 450. While we have already seen dozens of spy shots of it, a recently leaked document now indicates a hard-core Himalayan 450 version. As per the leaked document, this version is likely to feature a flat single-piece seat, significantly raised ride height, upright windscreen, and a handful of other changes, making it off-road-focused. Both models may come with LED lights, adjustable upside-down forks and rear mono-shock, a fully- or semi-digital instrument cluster, dual-channel ABS, and traction control, among others.

Followed by the Himalayan 450 pair, there is likely to be the Scrambler 450. Although it is likely to use the same platform and 450cc liquid-cooled engine, this motorcycle could stand out from the other models with its unique Scrambler-like styling elements. For instance, it should get substantial ground clearance, an exhaust pipe mounted higher than the conventional setup, a rally-motorcycle-inspired beak, and so on. With this, Royal Enfield would have its first proper Scrambler.

Unlike the Scrambler 450 and a couple of other models based on the 450 platform, the Roadster 450 has been spotted testing several times in the country. As seen in the spy shots, it might bear a circular LED headlamp, LED turn signals, sculpted rider seat, sizable front and rear disc brakes, shorter tail section, telescopic front forks, and alloy wheels. While Royal Enfield could name it the Hunter 450, this motorcycle is expected to be the entry point to the 450 range, probably making it the most affordable model in the 450 line-up.

Royal Enfield seems to be going the extra mile with the 450 range, and the Cafe Racer 450 is another prime example. While the Cafe Racer appears to be identical to the Roadster 450 and Scrambler 450, it is likely to feature distinctive design elements, such as chunky fairing, a clip-on handlebar, and a curved tail section.
