Sahara Force India Academy drivers begin European karting careers
Sahara Force India's One From a Billion hunt had produced three winners - Arjun Maini, Jehan Daruvala and Tarun Reddy. Now SFI have entered these three in the European karting championships. Maini , Daruvala and Reddy are competing in the British Super One championship.
The British Super One championship incorporates KF3 class MSA regulations and uses 125cc water-cooled engines with a single rear brake and standard chassis. The karts are capable of speeds of up to 115kmph. The karts of these three youngsters will be painted in the colours of the Indian flag. Their coach is 1973 world karting champion Terry Fullerton who was also Aryton Senna's teammate during his karting days. Current SFI driver Paul di Resta's father Louis di Resta will be co-ordinating the entire project.
The first round of the season took place at the PF international circuit in Lincolnshire last week. However, due to wet racing conditions, the teenagers couldn't manage to break into the final 10. The next round will be held in Whilton Mill Circuit on May 12.
Nico Hulkenberg, SFI race driver said, "I was one of the judges during the team's talent hunt last year and saw the kids through every stage of the competition. All three have impressed me with their speed and commitment, so I think they have the potential to go a long way. I started out in karting when I was seven years old and I believe it is the best preparation for a career in single-seaters. UK is well known for having some of the best karting championships around so it's an ideal proving ground for the boys."
