Seven-seater Hyundai Creta SUV spotted testing

Team OD Updated: March 30, 2020, 12:29 PM IST

The second-gen Hyundai Creta has just been launched in India, and as per initial response, seems set to become another sales hit in our country. Now Hyundai seems set to capitalize further on this SUV's popularity by expanding the Creta's line-up with a three-row version.

This images from South Korea suggests that the seven-seater Creta is in the earlier stages of its development. The most notable change is the extended rear section, which also seems to have a boxier look to it. The L-shaped contrasting roof-design element from the standard car seems to have been slimmed down to allow for a larger opening for third row occupants. Other visible changes seem to be a different front grille and chunkier cladding along the door sills. The interiors haven't been seen but we can expect some minor differences in trim and colour choices. Also, the second should get a sliding function now to make access to the 60:40 third row easier. We expect equipment levels to remain as they are.

Mechanically, the seven-seater Creta will likely remain unchanged. The engines available are a 1.5-litre petrol with 115PS/144Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel motor with 115PS/250Nm and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with 140PS and 242Nm. There are three automatic options, aside from a 6-speed manual. These are a CVT, a 6-speed auto and a 7-speed DCT. The CVT is paired to the N/A petrol, the diesel is available with the torque converter while the turbo-petrol can be had with the DCT.

There is no word yet on whether the seven-seater Creta will make it to India, but we think that this version could help Hyundai strengthen the Creta's popularity even further. If launched here, the seven-seater Creta will compete against the upcoming MG Hector Plus and the Tata Gravitas.
