Skoda India to launch 6 new models in 2022, sales expected to cross 70,000 units
Skoda India today announced its plans for 2022, stating it expects sales to triple from 2021 to cross the 70,000-unit mark. The company also plans to launch six new models over the next year and significantly enhance its sales and service networks.
Upcoming Skoda cars 2022, new Kushaq variants confirmed
As for the six cars Skoda plans to launch in India in 2022, the company has confirmed its first launch for India this year will be the facelifted Skoda Kodiaq. The new Kodiaq will launch by mid-January and will be followed by the launch of the Skoda Slavia in early March. The company will also launch more variants of the Skoda Kushaq, which we think will include the rumoured top-spec Monte-Carlo version of the Kushaq. The Octavia and Superb will also get more variants in the coming year.
The company only plans on bringing the Octavia RS in 2023, which makes us think that the other planned models could be the facelifted Skoda Karoq as well as the Skoda Enyaq iV electric SUV. The EV may be brought in as CBU like its competition. Brand head Zac Hollis also confirmed that Skoda is working on more models on the local MQB-A0-IN platform, one of which is rumoured to be a sub-for-metre SUV, but these models will only come after 2022.
Skoda India sales plan 2022
Skoda India is betting big on the Skoda Kushaq and the Skoda Slavia for 2022. These two cars will generate most of the 70,000 units the Czech brand intends to sell in India this year, with monthly sales estimated to be 2,500 to 3,000 units for both models. This will be supplemented by the 5,000 units it expects to sell of the Skoda Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq this year. Meeting these targets will make India one of the top 10 markets for Skoda Auto globally.
The company had its most successful year in 2021 selling 23,858 units with a 130 per cent increase in sales over 2020. Significantly for Skoda India, rural sales grew by 200 per cent and corporate sales by 127 per cent. The Kushaq accounted for 60 per cent of this and now holds an 11.5 per cent share of its market. The Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia are both leaders in their respective markets, holding 26.4 and 39.2 per cent shares respectively.
Skoda India sales and service network expansion 2022
In 2022, Skoda India will grow its customer touchpoints by 28 per cent to 225 from the current 175. The brand will be present in 145 cities in India by 2022, up from 117 last year. Further, the rural market will be better serviced by compact workshops to be set up in 60 cities across India. Service touchpoints are set to grow by 72 per cent in 2022, from 93 locations to 160, while sales outlets will grow by 20 per cent to 180 locations.
In 2021, Skoda reduced service costs by 21 per cent and more such initiatives are to follow. The company will introduce service cams in 2022 for better transparency and focus more on digital sales.
