Skoda-Volkswagen India hit 1.5 million production milestone
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached the milestone of producing more than 15 lakh automobiles in India in Chakan, Pune. The facility has produced various vehicles, including the Skoda Fabia, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Vento, and all of the later models based on the MQB platform.
The Chakan plant now produces India 2.0 products such as the Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia, and Virtus. These models alone have contributed more than three lakh units to the overall manufacturing milestone. These models are based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which was launched specifically for the Indian market.
Furthermore, the Chakan facility has manufactured 3.8 lakh engines, including the best-selling 1.0-litre TSI engine. This engine is available across all four cars the group has to offer and puts out 115PS and 175Nm of torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or torque converter. There is also a more powerful 1.5-litre turbocharged unit as well.
Aside from the local market, SAVWIPL exports to over 40 countries outside India and is among the top four automotive exporters of made-in-India vehicles. Approximately 30 percent of the company's overall exports go to worldwide markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO, SAVWIPL said, "The significant output of 15 lakh vehicles at our Chakan plant, coupled with the production milestone of four successful MQB models and the 10-year journey of our engine shop stands testament to our dedication to India's automotive industry and SAVWIPL's significant contribution to the nation's talent and workforce."
