The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market recently witnessed a new entrant with the launch of the BYD Seal EV. With established players and a recent entry from China competing for consumer attention, we delve into the specifications of five rivals: the BYD Seal, BMW i4, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BYD Atto 3.
BYD Seal, BMW i4, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 & BYD Atto 3: Range
Firstly, attention turns to the Kia EV6, boasting the highest claimed range of 708km. The BYD Seal closely follows with a maximum range of 650km, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers a range of 619km. Despite being equipped with the largest battery pack on the list, the BMW i4 claims a delivery range of 590km. Last but not least, the BYD Atto 3 provides a 521km range.

In terms of performance, the Seal emerges as the quickest EV to cover zero to 100kmph in a claimed 3.8 seconds. Following the Seal EV, the EV6 can reach 100kmph from a standstill in 5.2 seconds. The i4 is no slouch either, reaching the mark in a respectable 5.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Atto 3 offer acceleration times of 7.6 and 7.3 seconds, respectively.

In conclusion, the recently launched Seal EV is a compelling product at a surprisingly affordable price range, offering three different powertrain choices, including an all-wheel-drive setup. Budget-conscious customers may find the Atto 3 attractive, with a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakh. The Ioniq 5 follows closely, offering a compelling package at Rs 46.05 lakh. In contrast, the EV6 falls into the mid-range, priced from Rs 60.95 lakh onwards. Lastly, the i4 commands a premium, starting at a significantly higher Rs 72.50 lakh. For those prioritising range, the Kia EV6 stands out with its claimed range of 708km, while the Seal and EV6 lead in terms of performance, making them attractive options for those seeking affordability.
