The Mahindra Thar Roxx has taken the market by storm. With bookings set to be opened only by September, the car has already garnered a lot of interest by potential customers looking for a family friendly. But the Thar is name well associated with off roading and even in that aspect, the Thar Roxx packs quite a bit. For people who are purely interested in adventure and going beyond the normal tarmac, the Force Gurkha has been quite an obvious choice. So let's take a quick look at how the Thar Roxx goes up against the iconic Force Gurkha 5-door.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Force Gurkha 5-door: Powertrain
The Roxx is offered in both petrol and diesel powertrains. The mStallion turbo-petrol engine produces 152PS and 330Nm with the 6-speed manual in the base variants of the Thar Roxx. Move up the variants list and that power output jumps up to 162PS. Finally, there is a 6-speed torque converter automatic which puts out 177PS and 380Nm. The Petrol Thar ROxx is only available with an RWD setup. Coming to the diesel engine, the RWD drive car produces 152PS and 330Nm regardless if you choose the MT or AT. The figures increase to 175PS and 370Nm of torque in the 4x4 variants.
A standard 2.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel does duties in the powertrain department. Maximum power and torque figures are rated at 140PS and 320Nm, respectively. There is no automatic transmission available on offer, just an old-school 5-speed manual.
The Thar Roxx also has a water-wading capacity of 650mm compared to the Gurkha's 700mm.

Mahindra has switched to a dual-tone black and beige scheme in place of the original all-black motif. On top versions, there are furthermore two 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation purposes. In addition to a central headrest, AC vents, and a Type-C charging outlet, the back has a bench that can fit three people. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a single-zone automatic climate control system, a Harman Kardon sound system, keyless entry with push button start, a panoramic sunroof (single-pane in lower variants), and ventilated front seats are just a few of the many new features.
In addition to the conventional six airbags, the complete safety package includes level-2 ADAS, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree video, an automated parking brake with auto hold, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ABS with EBD.
The features list of the Force Gurkha 5-door includes a 9-inch Android-based touchscreen, Type-A charging ports, a 12V outlet, tilt-adjust steering, power windows, LED lighting and central locking. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS, TPMS, three-point seatbelts for all but the middle second-row passenger and a reversing camera.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Force Gurkha 5-door: Prices
The Thar Roxx is available in MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L variants and prices start from Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Gurkha 5-door on the other hand is only offered in a single variant and is priced at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
