Spec comparison: Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Scorpio N
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is the latest SUV on the market currently and it will be gunning to take on family-friendly mid-size SUVs with its competitive pricing. The addition of 2 extra doors and the rear bench seat makes this a much more appealing prospect than its 3-door sibling. The Roxx will face plenty of competition in terms of pricing and one of its key rivals would be the Mahindra Scorpio N itself. The 2 SUVs from Mahindra are priced very similarly and feature an extremely identical list of features. Let's take a closer look at how these two siblings go head to head on paper.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Scorpio N: Dimensions
In terms of size, the Scorpion N is longer and wider at 4662mm and 1917mm, respectively. In comparison, the Thar Roxx is only 4428mm long and 1870mm wide. On the other hand, the Roxx stands tall at 1923mm compared to the Scorpio N's 1857mm. The Thar Roxx also has a 100mm longer wheelbase than the Scorpio N at 2850mm.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Scorpio N: Powertrains
Both cars are offered with petrol and diesel powertrains. Infact they share the same engine options but in different states of tune. The mStallion turbo-petrol engine produces 152PS and 330Nm with the 6-speed manual in the base variants of the Thar Roxx. Move up the variants list and that power output jumps up to 162PS. Finally, there is a 6-speed torque converter automatic which puts out 177PS and 380Nm. The Petrol Thar ROxx is only available with an RWD setup.
Coming to the diesel engine, the RWD drive car produces 152PS and 330Nm regardless if you choose the MT or AT. The figures increase to 175PS and 370Nm of torque in the 4x4 variants.
The 2.0-lire petrol engine in the Scorpio N produces 200PS and 370Nm of torque with the six-speed manual and 380Nm with the automatic. The diesel engine option in the Mahindra Scorpio N puts out 132PS and 300Nm of torque in the lower variants that are RWD. Step up to the 4x4 diesel and you get 175PS and 370Nm when paired with the manual and 400 Nm with the six-speed automatic.
The Thar Roxx also has a water-wading capacity of 650mm compared to the Scorpio N's 500mm.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Scorpio N: Features
The Thar Roxx's interior has a dashboard similar to the 3-door's but with more premium materials. Mahindra has switched to a dual-tone black and beige scheme in place of the original all-black motif. On top versions, there are furthermore two 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation purposes. In addition to a central headrest, AC vents, and a Type-C charging outlet, the back has a bench that can fit three people. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a single-zone automatic climate control system, a Harman Kardon sound system, keyless entry with push button start, a panoramic sunroof (single-pane in lower variants), and ventilated front seats are just a few of the many new features.
In addition to the conventional six airbags, the complete safety package includes level-2 ADAS, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree video, an automated parking brake with auto hold, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ABS with EBD.
The Scorpio N gets a dual-tone black and brown cabin, brown leatherette seat upholstery, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 12-speaker Sony sound system, 7-inch colour MID, wireless charger with cooling function,tilt-adjustable steering wheel, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, push-button start/stop, electrically adjustable and auto-fold ORVMs, 6-way powered driver's seat, front USB chargers, type-C charger for rear seats and auto-dimming IRVM.
Safety includes six airbags, electronic stability control, a front and rear parking camera, an automated parking brake with auto hold, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD. hill hold assist and hill descent control, rear defogger with a rear wiper, rear parking sensors, TPMS, seat belt reminder for all seats and ISOFIX child seat anchorage.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Scorpio N: Prices
The Thar Roxx is available in MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L variants and prices start from Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Scorpio N is offered in Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 S, Z8 and Z8 L variants and prices start from Rs 13.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
