Spec comparison: Mercedes-AMG C 43 vs BMW M340i

Mercedes-Benz India recently launched the all-new AMG C 43 4Matic, based on the new generation C-Class. This sporty saloon comes with a new powertrain, advanced tech, and AMG-spec performance-oriented mechanicals. Let's compare it with the BMW M340i xDrive to see how they stack up.

Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic vs BMW M340i xDrive: Powertrain

The Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic is powered by a new 1,991cc, inline four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing an impressive 408PS at 6,750rpm and 500Nm of torque at 5,000rpm. It features an AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission and a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. With this, it can reach 100kmph in 4.6 seconds and provides a top speed of 250kmph.

An interesting aspect is that this engine is the first-of-its-kind production series engine to be turbocharged with an electric gas exhaust turbocharger linked to a 48V mild hybrid system. This setup also powers the belt-driven starter generator, and the engine is hand-built in adherence to Mercedes-AMG's 'One Man, One Engine' philosophy.

On the other hand, the BMW M340i xDrive is equipped with a 2,998cc, six-cylinder, twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine. It generates 374PS between 5,500rpm and 6,500rpm and a formidable 500Nm of torque between 1,900rpm and 5,000rpm. This engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and boasts xDrive all-wheel drive. The BMW accelerates from zero to 100kmph in just 4.4 seconds.

In the interior of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic, you'll find sports seats, a new steering wheel with an AMG Drive Unit, a 12.3-inch driver display, an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AMG-specific user interfaces, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, USB Type-C ports, AMG sports pedals, wireless charging, and ambient lighting with 64 different colors. The cabin is adorned with Artico artificial leather upholstery and Microcut microfiber AMG in black, paired with distinctive red seat belts.

On the other side, the BMW M340i xDrive offers a combination of Alcantara and Sensatec trim in black with decorative stitching in blue and black. Other highlights include a three-zone temperature control system, powered front seats, a BMW Individual headliner, a sunroof, ambient lighting, M seat belts, an M steering wheel, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch driver screen and a 14.9-inch central information hub, a heads-up display, and telematics.

Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic offers various electronic features, including rear-axle steering, an AMG ride control suspension with adaptive adjustable damping in three modes (Comfort, Sport, and Sport+), AMG Dynamics, an AMG sport exhaust, an AMG sport braking system with silver brake callipers, launch control, ESP with dynamic cornering assist, telematics, a 360-degree camera, seven airbags, TPMS, and a heads-up display.

On the other hand, the BMW M340i xDrive comes with four drive modes (Ecopro, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+), launch control, M Sport suspension, M Sport differential, M Sport brakes with red callipers, an M Sport exhaust system, adaptive LED headlamps, BMW Digital Key, a 360-degree camera, reversing assistant, TPMS, cornering brake control, traction control, and electronic stability control.

Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic vs BMW M340i xDrive: Pricing

The Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic is priced at Rs 98 lakh (ex-showroom), while the BMW M340i xDrive starts at Rs 71.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

In conclusion, the two sporty saloons differ significantly in price, with the AMG C 43 being more expensive. Further, it is more powerful, but the M340i is a tad too quicker in terms of acceleration. When it comes to features, Mercedes-AMG has equipped the C 43 with several modern and high-tech features, including rear-wheel steering.
