Spec comparison: New Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo vs Tata Punch iCNG
Hyundai introduced the Exter Hy-Duo CNG in India on 17 July, 2024. The micro SUV debuted the twin-cylinder system we have already seen in most Tata iCNG models. To some extent, this has addressed one of the biggest downsides of owning a CNG car, which used to be a tradeoff (albeit there are still several CNG models with the bulky CNG tank) for a sizable boot space. This started with the Tata Motors launching the first-ever twin-cylinder CNG vehicle in the form of the Punch, replacing the massive tank with smaller two units that sit underneath the boot. Hyundai Exter CNG vs Tata Punch CNG: Variant-specific pricing & colours
Hyundai offers the Exter tin three variants, namely the S at Rs 8.50 lakh, SX at Rs 9.23 lakh, and Knight SX at Rs 9.38 lakh. Whereas, the Punch CNG comes in five variants: Pure at Rs 7.23 lakh, Adventure at Rs 7.95 lakh, Adventure Rhythm at Rs 8.30 lakh, Accomplished at Rs 8.95 lakh, and Accomplished Dazzle S at Rs 9.85 lakh.
The Exter can be had in a variety of single-tone and dual-tone colours, such as Fiery Red, Ranger Khaki, Cosmic Blue, Atlas White, Shadow Grey, Titan Grey, Abyss Black, and Starry Night single-tone shades along with dual-tone paints, namely Atlas Black with Abyss Black, Ranger Khaki with Abyss Black, Cosmic Blue with Abyss Black, Shadow grey with abyss black roof.
On the flip side, the Punch EV is available in Tropical Mist, Meteor Bronze, Orcus White, Atomic Orange, and Daytona Grey colour options.
Hyundai Exter CNG vs Tata Punch CNG: Engine specifications
The Exter CNG comes powered by a 1.2-litre, inline four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83PS and 114Nm of torque. In the CNG mode, it makes 69PS and 95.2Nm. It is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. As claimed, the Exter CNG returns a mileage of 27.1km/kg. The CNG system gets a standard warranty of three years.
Powering the Punch CNG is a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol that delivers 83PS and 113Nm of torque. However, it produces only 73.5PS and 97Nm in the CNG mode. This engine is also paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Exter CNG boasts an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, six airbags, TPMS, ESP, hill start assist, projector headlamps, 15-inch steel wheels, artificial leather seat covers, adjustable headrests in the rear, part-digital instrument cluster, powered ORVMs with auto-fold, USB Type-C socket, keyless entry, four speakers, reverse parking camera with senors, and rear window defogger, among others.
