Suzuki showcases new GSX-8R and GSX-S1000GX at EICMA 2023
Suzuki has unveiled two new motorcycles, the GSX-8R a middleweight sportbike and the GSX-S1000GX crossover-tourer, at the ongoing EICMA 2023. Both models are based on the brand's on-sale motorcycles, the GSX-8S and GSX-1000 GT.
New Suzuki GSX-8R: Highlights
Based on the same platform as the GSX-8S, the new GSX-8R is new middleweight sportbike from the Japanese bike maker. The GSX-8S features a sporty bodywork with angular fairing, and a familiar fascia. There is a new split handler bar instead of a traditional clip-on setup. Not to mention, the sportbike counterpart of the GSX-8S is slightly heavier too. Meanwhile, it will be available in three colours in the international markets: Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Mat Sword Silver, and Metallic Mat Black No. 2.
Powering the GSX-8R is the 776cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled DOHC engine, which also powers the GSX-8S and V-Strom 800. While the power output details of the engine are scarce at the moment, the same engine on the GSX-8R makes 82PS and 78Nm of torque.
New Suzuki GSX-S1000GX: Highlights
The GSX-S1000GX is a new sport-touring crossover but shares its underpinnings with the GSX-S1000 GT sport-tourer, including the powertrain. Suzuki says that with the blend of sport and adventure tourers, he "GX" promises the versatility of a bike built to be comfortable, controllable and equally adept at satisfying the rider, whether enjoying an aggressive sport run or long distance touring on different terrains.
It gets new Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension, Suzuki Road Adaptive Stabilisation, automatic rear suspension modes, smart cruise control, Suzuki Active Damping Control with three modes, and cornering ABS with traction control governed by six-axis IMU. In terms of design, the motorcycle gets aggressive front end design, a tall windscreen, half-fairing with sharp cuts and creases, rear-set foot pegs, and a large luggage rack at the back. Suzuki will offer it with three shades: Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Sparkle Black, and Pearl Mat Shadow Green.
The GSX-S1000GX gets the 999cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with expected output of 152PS and 106Nm of torque. It is the direct rival to the BMW S1000XR, which is also available in a new M1000XR form, the third M model from BMW Motorrad after the M1000RR and M1000R.
