Maruti Suzuki has introduced the long-awaited new generation Swift in India with prices starting at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in five variants and two new colour options: Luster Blue and Novel Orange. Since the Swift had already gone on sale in international markets, such as Japan, we compare the India-spec Swift with the model available in other countries.

Maruti Suzuki Swift: Design & Interior

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is almost identical to the model available in the international markets except for a handful of cosmetic changes, such as a different rear bumper, alloy wheels, and grille accents for the India-spec model. Key highlights include LED projector headlamps, boomerang-patterned daytime driving lights, C-shaped taillamps, a large octagonal-shaped grille, and a shoulder line running across the car. The model launched in India also seems to have higher ground clearance. Overall, the new generation Swift is sportier compared to its predecessor.

Although the interior layout of both Swift is the same, the international-spec hatchback gets a dual-tone colour theme. The India-spec model has an all-black cabin with silver inserts. The common features include a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB Type-C and Type-A ports, wireless charging pad, cruise control, hill hold assist, connected car tech, six airbags, and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).

However, the International-spec Swift gets advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive high beam assist, blind spot monitoring system, and driver monitoring system. It also comes with a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and more.

Maruti Suzuki Swift: Engine

The next-gen Swift introduces a new engine: a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated Z12E petrol unit making 81.58PS at 5,700rpm and 111.7Nm of torque at 4,300rpm. In India, this motor is coupled to a five-speed manual and an AMT. However, the international model gets a CVT transmission. More importantly, there is also a mild-hybrid system available for the hatchback offered in other markets.
