Tata Altroz Racer launched at Rs 9.49 lakh

Tata Motors has launched the hottest iteration of its popular hatchback and prices for the new Altroz Racer start from Rs 9.49 lakh lakh (ex-showroom). The car was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and now the brand has opened bookings for the performance-oriented hatchback are underway in India. The Altroz Racer is offered in R1, R2 and R3 variants and will only be available with a manual transmission.

Additionally, Tata Motors has also launched XZ LUX and XZ+S LUX variants for the standard Altroz and has also upgraded the XZ+OS variant with extra features.

Tata Altroz Racer: Powertrain

The most significant difference between the standard Altroz and the Altroz Racer is its new engine borrowed from the Nexon - a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 120PS at 5,500rpm and 170Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Unlike the 5-speed manual found in the regular Altroz, the Racer will get a 6-speed transmission. Tata has also fitted the Racer with a sporty exhaust.

Tata Altroz Racer: Exterior

The Altroz Racer does not have any design alterations to the bodywork. Dimensions of the car remain the same as the normal Altroz with a wheelbase of 2,501mm. It does get stylistic features that improve its athletic appeal when compared to the standard car though. The revisions include a reworked grille with a mesh-like pattern and a new set of 16-inch blacked-out alloy wheels.

The Altroz Racer is available in Pure Grey, Atomic Orange, and Avenue White colour schemes. It will also get dual white racing stripes that start from the bonnet and run till the end of the roof. There's also a 'RACER' badge placed at the bottom of the A-pillar.

Tata Altroz Racer: Interior and Features

Inside, the Altroz Racer features an all-black dashboard and black leatherette seat upholstery. For a more sporty look, the seats and steering wheel are stitched in contrast. The features include ventilated leatherette seats, a voice-activated electric sunroof, a head-up display, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, a wireless charger, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with all vehicle connect technologies and a 7-inch TFT digital cluster. On the safety aspect, it is anticipated to include six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard.

Tata Altroz Racer: Rivals

Currently, the Tata Altroz is priced from Rs 6.65 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). Tata Motors also currently offers the Altorz i-Turbo with a turbocharged engine at Rs 9.70 lakh. The Racer which is priced at Rs 9.49 lakh will be sold alongside these cars. The Altroz Racer will rival the Hyundai i20 N Line and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

Tata Altroz: Variant updates

The new XZ LUX and XZ+S LUX variants will be available in a choice of petrol manual, petrol DCA, diesel and CNG powertrains. The XZ LUX variant gets a 10.25-inch infotainment, 360-degree camera and AA and ACP over wifi. Additionally, if you opt for the XZ+S LUX variant you will also get 6 airbags and the XZ+ OS variant goes even further and offers iRA Connected Car tech and an air purifier.
