Tesla Robotaxi is fully driverless cab concept for 2 passengers
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, presented a brand-new autonomous cab without a steering wheel or any pedals. Musk calls this the 'Cybercab' and it is set for production in 2026, and it will utilize AI and cameras to take passengers to their desired destination.
The Cybercab, although being much smaller and having a more aerodynamic form, takes its front end from the larger Cybertruck, much like its name suggests. Its space-age design includes upward-opening butterfly-wing doors that expose a compact compartment that can fit two passenger seats.
There isn't much on the inside of the car either and the whole place is simple design. Only two cupholders and a large screen like to those in previous Tesla models are shown in interior images.
Elon Musk stated that the Cybercab will be sold to the general public for less than 30,000 US Dollars although he did not disclose any performance or range estimations. Also, it will have inductive charging, which eliminates the need for a physical connector to recharge the battery.
Musk said that in the future, people may own whole fleets of Robotaxis and "manage them like a shepherd manages his flock." At the 'We, Robot' presentation, Tesla also debuted the Robovan, a bigger self-driving bus, which is perhaps a nod to Isaac Asimov's novel 'I, Robot'. In addition to lacking internal controls, this van's stylish appearance offers ample room for 20 seats.
