The new Bentley Continental GT Speed is a V8 Hybrid with 782PS
After teasing us for what feels like forever, Bentley has finally pulled the wraps off the new Continental GT Speed and Continental GTC Speed convertible. Even though the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed lacks the iconic W12 engine, its new plug-in hybrid V8 produces more torque and power and allows for emissions-free driving.
Bentley Continental: Powertrain and Electronics
As the world shifts to hybrids and EVs, Bentley has ditched its legendary W12 engine after more than 20 years of production. The 4.0-liter V8 engine in the fourth-generation Continental GT coupe and GTC convertible features twin single-scroll turbochargers and a flat-plane crank. A sizeable 25.9-kW battery is where the electric power is sourced from.
The system's overall outputs have increased to 782PS of power and 1000Nm of torque, from the preceding Speed's W12 by 122PS and 100Nm. The electric motor is integrated within the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and distributes drive torque to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system including an electronic limited-slip differential.
The coupe's can sprint from a standstill to 100kmph in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 335 kmph. The convertible can reach 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, with a maximum speed of 285 kmph. Bentley claims the new Continental GT has an electric-only range of 81 kilometres.
A whole suite of active dynamic technologies will be fitted to the new GT Speed. These will consist of rear-axle steering, a 48-volt electrical anti-roll system, twin-valve adaptive dampers, and air springs. The basic brake callipers are 10-piston front and 4-piston rear, but you may also go for carbon-silicon-carbide brakes with 440mm front and 410mm rear discs or ventilated iron brakes with 420mm front and 380mm rear discs.
Bentley Continental: Design and Interior
The coachbuilt Bentley Bacalar and Batur set the new design DNA for a total makeover of the exterior and interior, complete with clean, contemporary details. Its oval headlights include an LED slit that creates the appearance of an eyebrow, and its crystal-cut interior, which has 120 individual LEDs, is just as elaborate as we've come to expect from Bentley. There are no longer any vents on the front fender forward of the doors, the front bumper intakes are more sculptural, and the grille mesh is a little more intricate.
The fabric roof of the GTC can be deployed in 19 seconds at a top speed of 48 kmph and is available in seven colours, including tweed. It comes with regular 22-inch rims in a variety of designs. The tailgate's outlines have been somewhat altered, and the back taillights have also been enlarged. Similar to previously, the GT can remain stable at autobahn speeds without an active rear wing component.
Although there are new colour and trim options available for the inside, the basic design appears to be the same. One notable alteration is the addition of a rotating bezel in the middle of the dashboard that can be used to alternate between a 12.3-inch touchscreen. There are three available sound systems: an amazing 18-speaker Naim system with active bass transducers integrated into the seats; moreover, new laminated acoustic glass that lowers noise levels by nine decibels is available.
The new Bentley Continental GT Speed and its convertible cousin are expected to come to India in the coming months and we expect it to be priced north of the Rs 5 crore mark (ex-showroom).
