The new BMW M5 is a PHEV with 727PS
BMW has unveiled the seventh edition of the M5, which includes M Hybrid power, which consists of a single electric motor incorporated into the ZF-supplied automatic transmission and a twin-turbo V8 engine.
New BMW M5: Powertrain and Electronics
With a standard hybrid powertrain and a weight of 2,445 kg, the new M5 is not only the most powerful model ever but also the heaviest ever built. The M Hybrid Drive System, which consists of an electric motor, a high-capacity battery pack, and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, is the brains behind the all-new M5.
The engine produces 585 PS and 750 Nm of torque thanks to the M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold. It is further coupled to a hybrid system that uses an 18.6 kWh battery pack to boost power to an incredible 727 PS and 1000 Nm.
The new M5 is claimed by BMW to reach 100 kmph from zero in 3.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 255 kmph, but with the M Driver's Package, it can reach 305 kmph. BMW also claims the new M5 can now travel only electric power alone up to 69 km on the WLTP cycle.
The new M5's sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain is complemented by an adjustable M suspension system that comes standard and Integral Active Steering. Additionally, it has the M Servotronic variable steering ratio, which, based on the driving situation, may automatically modify the best feedback to the steering wheel.
Six-piston callipers mounted on 410mm discs in front and single-piston floating callipers mounted on 400mm discs in rear are what stop the M5. The optional M Carbon ceramic brakes increase the front disc size to 420mm.
New BMW M5: Design and Interiors
The external elements and M-specific accents give the M5 an aggressive appearance. A new front bumper and a gloss black surround are added to the twin-kidney grille. It is indistinguishable from anything else on the road because of its quad-setup exhaust system, huge diffuser, and carbon fibre lip spoiler on the back. As for the wheels, you get 20 inches up front and 21 inches at the rear.
The inside is sporty but at the same time a luxurious place to be. A large curved display takes centre stage, holding a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver's instrumentation and a few pieces of M-specific material. The newest BMW operating system, version 8.5, supports voice commands and augmented view features. BMW fitted M Multifunction seats, which are optimized for daily driving as well as racing.
A head-up display, four-zone automatic temperature control, a wireless charging tray, an M leather flat-bottom steering wheel with lighted M buttons, M multifunction seats with electric adjustment, and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system are just some of the other features of the all-new BMW M5.
