Third-gen Porsche Panamera launched in India, priced at Rs 1.68 crore

Porsche has officially presented the third-generation Porsche Panamera not just internationally, but also in India, where it is priced at Rs 1.68 crore. The Panamera, which is still based on the same platform as its predecessor, is now offered in three variants: the regular Porsche Panamera, the Panamera 4, and the top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid. The sporty luxury sedan, unveiled in Shanghai, has an evolutionary facelift, additional digital capabilities, and an air suspension adapted from the Cayenne.

New Porsche Panamera: Design and Dimensions

This luxury sedan is priced at Rs 1.68 crore (ex-showroom). That makes it Rs 9 lakh more costly than the previous model. Bookings for the same are expected to begin soon, followed by delivery.

The dimensions of the 2024 Porsche Panamera are 5,052mm long, 1,937mm wide, and 1,423mm high. This implies that the Panamera preserves its previous generation's dimensions, with the exception of a small 3mm increase in height.

The revised design has a wider lower grille opening, a reworked face, and a new air-opening gap above the front license plate mounting point, giving the car a somewhat more aggressive appearance. Matrix LED headlights are standard on the third-generation Panamera. Customers can choose the HD Matrix LED lighting system, which is brighter since it has more than 32,000 pixels per headlamp.

The alterations in the back are more modest, as the Panamera retains its two-stage spoiler and distinctive sloping roofline. The sculpted back bumper and full-width LED taillights, which are now slimmer in appearance, are new. Last, but not least, the Panamera may be equipped with optional 21-inch alloy wheels with centre locks inspired by the 911 GT3.

New Porsche Panamera: Powertrain

The third-generation Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 are powered by a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 353PS and 500Nm, 23PS and 50Nm more than its predecessor.

The basic Panamera can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds and reach a peak speed of 272 kmph with power exclusively routed to the rear wheels. The Panamera 4 on the other hand, with its all-wheel-drive system, can complete 0 to 100kmph sprint in 4.8 seconds and reach a high speed of 270 kmph.

The Panamera E-Turbo Hybrid plug-in hybrid follows, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 combined with a single electric motor fitted into an 8-speed automated transmission. It is then supplemented by a 25.9 kWh battery pack, resulting in a total system output of 680PS and 930Nm of torque for the car.

This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds and reach a peak speed of 314 kmph. Because it is a plug-in hybrid, the electrified Panamera has an all-electric range of around 83 to 93 kilometers.

New Porsche Panamera: Interiors and Features

The new Panamera has pretty much left the dashboard with a flowing centre console design as is. What has changed though is what sits in that dashboard. The new Panamera has a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 10.9-inch passenger display as an option. If desired, an optional head-up display may be fitted to augment the driver's screen, providing a fourth monitor to gaze at.

There are fewer physical controls than previously, and many climate-control functions appear to have been relocated to the touchscreen; nonetheless, several classic rocker buttons for air temperature and possibly fan speed remain. The air vents may be adjusted electrically, and the gear selector has been relocated from the centre console to a toggle button next to the steering wheel.

Porsche's phoney turn-key starter has also been replaced with a stop/start button.

The remainder of the inside is contemporary and appealing, with lots of ambient lighting and trims to remind you that this is still a luxurious Porsche and not a 911 focused on weight saving. The crimson seats and door trim in the displayed interior are made of materials other than typical leather. The two rear-seat passengers can also have their own digital display, which is attached to the console that divides the sitting space.

For now, Porsche has only launched the prices of the rear-wheel drive V6 model in India and the Rs 1.68 crore price tag is for the Panamera with just standard equipment.
