The sub-four meter segment offers a variety of SUVs from the major brands. These SUVs are powered by distinctive petrol and diesel powertrains with different power output options. Here we find out the most powerful offerings in the sub-compact SUV segment.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

Mahindra recently updated the XUV 300 (which is now called XUV 3XO) with a major update, offering a fresh design, additional and a handful of segment-first features, and new transmission. It is available in the same powertrain options as before. There is a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder, T-GDI petrol engine producing 130PS and 230Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor that makes 110PS and 200Nm of torque. Then, it also gets a 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbo-diesel unit generating 117PS and 300Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, a six-speed AMT, and a new six-speed torque converter.

Tata Nexon

One of the top-selling offering in its segment, the Tata Nexon facelift, comes powered by a 1.2-litre, inline three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 120PS and 170Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel motor producing 115PS and 260Nm of torque. Both powertrain are mated to a six-speed manual and an AMT, while the petrol engine can now be paired with a new seven-speed DCT automatic transmission.

Kia Sonet

The recently updated Kia Sonet offers a choice of three distinctive engine options with a range of transmissions. It gets a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 83PS and 115Nm of torque and a 1.0-litre, inline three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor with 120PS and 172Nm. It is also available with a 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that delivers 116PS and 250Nm of torque. Notably, transmission options include a five-speed manual, a six-speed iMT, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and a six-speed manual.

Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue shares its engines with the Kia Sonet, however, it does not offer the iMT and six-speed automatic transmission options. There is the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine with 83PS/113.8Nm, a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit with 120PS/172Nm, and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor with 116PS/250Nm. These engines can be mated to a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, and a seven-speed DCT automatic.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the only offering from the carmaker to get a turbocharged petrol engine. It is powered by a 100PS/148Nm 1.0-litre, inline three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine (with mild-hybrid tech) producing 100PS and 148Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol motor that generates 90PS and 113Nm. Transmission options are a five-speed manual, a five-speed AMT, and a six-speed torque converter automatic.
