Triumph unveils the new Scrambler 1200 XC in India

The new Triumph Scrambler 1200 has just been revealed in India, and is only available in the base XC version as the top-spec XE version.

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 is the Bonneville designed for riding both on and off-road and comes with a host of features that lend it this ability. Barring the 1200cc engine from the Thruxton, every other component is new. That's the chassis, suspension, design and what have you.

The modern-classic design looks great and the quality of materials, as well as fit and finish, is top level.

The 1,200cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine produces 90PS at 7,400rpm and 110Nm at 3,950rpm. Unlike the Thruxton, this motor is tuned for the better bottom and mid range grunt, apparent by the rpm at which peak torque is produced.

The Scrambler 1200 gets five riding modes- Road, Rain, Sport, Off-road and Rider (customisable). Each mode alters the engine map and ABS settings. The modes chosen can be viewed on the new, full-colour TFT display that also shows the engine revs, speed and clock amongst other information.

In keeping with the off-road ready design, the suspension has 200mm travel at the front (45mm Showa) and 200mm travel at the rear (twin Ohlins) and are fully adjustable. Also, the 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire spoke wheels are shod with tubeless Metzeler Tourance rubber.

The only part that may baffle you by its presence is the Brembo M50 monoblock callipers that bite on the 320mm twin discs. It is superbike level of braking on a dual-purpose motorcycle and we are waiting to see how that set-up works, especially off the road.

In all, the new Triumph Scrambler 1200 seems like a good option to a full-blown adventure tourer, if light trails are where you will be spending most of your time. Plus, the Scrambler should fit the bill as an everyday commuter or for a Sunday cafe ride. We'll bring you more details after the embargo on the first ride lifts on May 28.

Meanwhile, bookings for the 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 have commenced across dealerships in India.
