Upcoming KTM 890 Adventure motorcycle teased, to be unveiled on October 19
KTM is all set to launch their latest in the middleweight Adventure segment, which will be the 890 Adventure. The Austrian motorcycle brand has already been teasing of its launch on its social media platforms. The KTM 890 Adventure, will be placed above the 790 Adventure but will have lower equipment than what the company offers in the 890 Adventure R and the 890 Adventure Rally, that was showcased earlier this month.
In terms of design, KTM has always had a sort of universal theme on all its adventure motorcycles, which begins with the middle-split headlight that we have seen on the 390 Adventure all the way up to the flagship 1290 Adventure series. The bodywork will have a minimal theme with a compact fuel tank, split seat unlike the 890 Adventure R's single-piece unit and spoke wheels, as shown in the teaser video.
The KTM 890 Adventure R is powered by an 889cc motor, that features a larger bore and stroke compared to that in the 790. This unit puts out more power (+9PS) at 103PS and also a better torque rating (+12Nm) at 104Nm. These numbers are expected to create an even more engaging performance compared to the 790.
The additional power and improved torque rating have been achieved with the use of updated pistons, valves, valve springs, connecting rods and more, all of which have made the engine heavier than before but at the same time offers smoother performance and better handling, claims KTM. Mated to this engine is an improves transmission with a revised design and a new slipper clutch for seamless shifts. The company has also equipped the powertrain with a more effective oil cooler for better cooling and also to increase the shelf life of the engine. For the 890 Adventure, we believe KTM will carry the same motor and will also retain the state of tune.
The KTM 890 Adventure Rally is the top-spec version.
The underpinnings of the KTM 890 Adventure could be similar to the one on the 790 Adventure. The equipment used in the R and the Rally trims of the 890 Adventure will definitely not make it into the base 890 Adventure. Saying that it will get 21-inch front wheel, 18-inch rear (both spoked) and will be suspended by WP USD in the front and mono-shock in the rear.
