Upcoming Mahindra EVs spotted testing in extreme conditions
Recently, three new Mahindra electric vehicles were spotted under camouflage en route to Ladakh and from the looks of it, it seems like the upcoming cars are undergoing high-altitude testing. Putting EVs through this difficult terrain is critical for evaluating the performance, electric components and battery of the car under harsh temperature conditions.
In the video, we see 3 cars from Mahindra cars on their way to Khardung La in Ladakh. From the three vehicles, we assume the first 2 are the Mahindra BE.05 SUV and the last vehicle is the XUV.e9.
Mahindra BE.05
The EV-specific INGLO platform underpins Mahindra's BE 05. The car is likely to have a 79-kWh battery pack with a range of up to 450 kilometres. Mahindra claims 175 kW rapid charging capabilities, allowing the BE.05 to charge from 5 percent to 80 percent in less than half an hour. The BE.05 will be available with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. According to Mahindra, rear-wheel-drive models might generate up to 285PS, while all-wheel-drive variants could provide up to 394PS.
The vehicle is expected to include a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seats, a freestanding completely digital instrument cluster, fabric door handles, and a floating centre console on the inside.
The Mahindra BE.05 SUV, which will be on sale in October 2025, will sit above the XUV400 EV and will compete directly with the Tata Curvv EV, which is also expected to go on sale later in 2024.
Mahindra XUV.e9
The XUV.e9 is essentially an SUV-coupe variant of the XUV.e8 and is set to go on sale in April 2025. The XUV.e9 features a similar front appearance as the XUV.e8, with the exception of coupe design and linked tail lights. The design of the alloy wheels is another distinction between the two.
Based on the same INGLO platform that underpins the BE.05, Mahindra has stated that battery capacities would range between 60 and 80 kWh, adding that both RWD single motor and AWD twin motor configurations are possible.
Currently, Mahindra only offers the Mahindra XUV400 in its EV portfolio but that will change by December 2024 when the Mahindra XUV.e8 will be launched. Following that will be the Mahindra BE.05 SUV, which will be on sale in October 2025.
