Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door to have digital instrument cluster?
Mahindra's Thar 5-door is set to debut in the second half of 2024, and spy photos of the vehicle have been circulating the internet for some time. Yes, the 5-door version of the Thar will have a slightly different exterior styling but from the looks of it, the interior is where the car will get its biggest upgrades, one of which seems to be the integration of a fully digital instrument cluster. Mahindra has trademarked several names for the 5-door that you can read more about.
Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door: Interior and Features
We already knew that the car would be getting the 10.25-inch infotainment unit seen on the recently updated XUV400 and now we can only see that the car will also get the 10.25-inch digital driver display from the XUV700. This system runs on the latest Adrenox software and also gets OTA updates. This is the case only on the top variants though, as lower variants are expected to get analogue dials.
Other prominent features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with multifunction controls, a roof-mounted IRVM and a grabhold on the passenger side of the dashboard. The Thar 5-door is also likely to include an electric sunroof, a dashcam and roof-mounted speakers, akin to the Scorpio N and XUV700.
The five-door Thar is expected to come equipped with a range of standard safety features, including six airbags, electronic stability program, hill hold and descent control, ABS with EBD, brake assist, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, three-point seat belts, and seatbelt reminders for all seats, among other features.
Individual AC vents will help rear passengers comfort. The layout of the second-row seats has not been revealed, but we assume Mahindra might provide a standard bench seat as well as individual seats, comparable to the 3-door Thar.
Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door: Powertrain
The five-door Thar is likely to carry forward the same powertrains as the three-door version, which includes a 2.0-litre mStallion engine producing 152PS and 300Nm of torque (320Nm with AT) and a 2.2-litre mHawk engine generating 132PS and 300Nm of torque. However, it may instead benefit from more potent diesel and petrol versions offered with the Scorpio-N, producing 175PS/370Nm of torque (400Nm with AT) and 200PS and 370Nm of torque (380Nm with AT), respectively.
Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door: Prices
The new five-door Thar could start from Rs 13-15 lakh and go up to Rs 18-20 lakh. Currently, the three-door Thar prices range between Rs 11.25 lakh and Rs 17.20 lakh (both ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect Mahindra to launch the new five-door Thar sometime later this year.
