Volvo C40 Recharge debuts in India; launch in August
Volvo India has unveiled the all-electric C40 Recharge in India ahead of its launch scheduled to take place in August 2023, with deliveries starting in September 2023. The C40 Recharge, based on the XC40 Recharge, is a coupe-style SUV. It has also announced that it will open the order book for the EV across the country after the launch. Notably, the India-bound model will be available in a single variant, C40 Recharge E80. Meanwhile, Volvo will assemble the C40 Recharge at its facility in Hoskote, Karnataka, similar to the XC40 Recharge.
Volvo C40 Recharge: Range, Power outputs, and charging
For model year 2023, Volvo has carried out major changes to the electric powertrain of the C40 Recharge, with the key change being a return of the RWD to its line-up. While it is offered in RWD and AWD in some international markets, the India-bound model will be an AWD version.
The India-spec C40 Recharge will be available with a 78kWh (gross) battery pack paired with an all-wheel drive system, with a 249PS motor on the rear axle and a 159PS motor on the front axle. The combined power output of the electric motors is rated at 408PS and 660Nm of torque. This AWD trim offers a range of 530km on a single charge, according to WLTP standards. With this, the C40 Recharge can achieve zero to 100kmph in 4.7 seconds and provides a top speed of 180kmph.
Volvo C40 Recharge: Exterior, interior, and features
In terms of design, the C40 Recharge closely resembles the XC40 Recharge but features a distinctive coupe-style sloping roofline. It retains the signature Thor's Hammer style daytime running lights, closed-off grille, and vertical taillamps. The C40 Recharge measures 4,440mm in length, 1,910mm in width, and 1,591mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,702mm. The India-spec model comes with new 19-inch aero wheels.
The interior of the C40 Recharge features leather-free upholstery with a combination of suede textile and microtech upholstery available in two themes: Charcoal and Fjord Blue. There are powered front seats with memory function for the driver's seat. It also gets a tablet-style nine-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system powered by Google, a 12.3-inch fully digital driver display, two Type-C USB ports, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, an in-cabin air purifier, and two-zone climate control.
On top of that, the EV comes with a 360deg camera, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free powered tailgate, wireless charging pad, connected car tech, seven airbags, TPMS, hill start and descent control functions, and ADAS.
Volvo C40 Recharge: Price
While the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV is priced from Rs 56.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the C40 Recharge is expected to command a higher premium, likely around Rs two to three lakh.
