Volvo EX90 makes unveiled globally; Indian debut expected next year
The new seven-seat Volvo EX90 SUV from Volvo has been unveiled as the company's new flagship. The new EV SUV, which is scheduled to go on sale internationally in 2024, is essentially a battery-only version of the current Volvo XC90.
The EX90 keeps the XC40 Recharge's blanked-off grille and the Thor's hammer headlamps as signature Volvo design elements. It has sleek door handles and angular 22-inch five-spoke alloy wheels that are visible from the profile. Although there are some side creases, the huge glasshouse reminds me of the XC90. It has a dual tail light design with a C-shaped LED unit below and a pixelated pattern for the unit above that is rather distinctive from the back.
A single variant of the Volvo EX90 with dual-motor all-wheel drive and a 408PS output will be made available at first. A performance-oriented model with a massive 517PS and 910Nm output will be added later.
The SUV will be powered by a 111kWh battery pack, giving it a driving range of up to 600km (WLTP). At its maximum pace, it will be able to quickly charge devices from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.
The EV's interior is simple and basic with innovative additions like ambient lighting that is hidden within the wood trim on the dashboard and doors. The EV boasts a smartphone key function, a 14.5-inch portrait-style infotainment touchscreen with 5G readiness and built-in Google OS, a Bowers & Wilkins system with Dolby Atmos surround sound, and a thin yet high-res digital driver's display.
The Volvo EX90 includes a sophisticated array of active safety systems (ADAS) that constantly keep an eye on the environment around the SUV. It is equipped with eight cameras, a radar, and a laser-based surround-view sensing technology called LiDAR. With these characteristics, the EX90 can 'see' 250 meters ahead, even at night, alerting you to impending dangers far in advance.
There are a few global regions where you may order the Volvo EX90. The Jaguar I-Pace EV, which will compete with the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQC, and Jaguar I-Pace EVs, is anticipated to make its Indian debut sometime in 2023.
