Volvo introduces XC40, EX40, & EC40 Black Edition models

Volvo Cars has announced Black Edition versions of the XC40, EX40, and EC40. This special edition version brings unique design elements and black interior. The brand had also introduced the XC60 Black Edition in 2023. That said, it recently renamed the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge to the EX40 and EC40, whereas the ICE XC40 retains the same model name.

2024 XC40, EX40, EC40 Black Edition: Highlights

The special Black Edition versions of the EX40, EC40 and the XC40 models feature an Onyx Black paint job. However, the special edition version is not just limited to the black shade, but the badges finished gloss black and 20-inch alloy wheels painted in gloss black. On the inside, the customers can choose between microtech or textile charcoal interior options.

The XC40 is available with T2, B3, and B4 versions with an option of both three- and four-cylinder engines. The 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit 129PS and 245Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit is offered in two states of tunes: 163PS/265Nm and 197PS/300. All motors come mated to an automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the EX40 and EC40 electric vehicles are available in a choice of two drivetrain layouts: single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel drive. The single motor variant gets a 69kWh battery pack, while the single-motor extended range and twin-motor trims come with an 82kWh unit. The EX40 and EC40 deliver a maximum range of 576km and 583km, respectively. The large capacity battery supports up to 200kW charging.

2024 XC40, EX40, EC40 Black Edition: India launch

We expect Volvo to offer the new EX40, EC40, and XC40 Black Edition in India. Currently, the electric SUV and coupe SUV are priced at 57.90 lakh and Rs 62.95 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively. Whereas, the XC40 petrol has been discontinued from the market.
