Team OD Updated: April 28, 2015, 03:44 PM IST

Yamaha has issued a recall for 62 units of its recently launched YZF-R1M due to a manufacturing defect in the rear Ohlins suspension.

Ohlins said that the defect in the rear suspension unit could be a result of an error at the manufacturing stage. According to the Swedish company, the piston rod nut may have been tightened before the piston had the correct full metal-to-metal contact.

This could affect the handling of the high performance superbike as the nut may loosen over time. A rider may also crash due to the malfunctioning suspension unit. The recall affects suspension units that were produced from November 9, 2013 to February 20, 2014.

The recall was officially announced for customers in Canada and Australia. Upon inspection, the affected units will be replaced without any costs charged to the customer.
