Subscribe: October 2017 Issue

What can be better than celebrating 19 years of the best car and bike news, reviews and views than another whopper of an issue! It's an electric one, we tell you, what with the government's ultimatum to the Indian automobile manufacturers on a green future. Add to that the 'cess-ational' GST amendment. There's action from Germany, Bhutan, andJapan if local haps (and mishaps) weren't enough. Ladies and gents, here is a sneak peek at what's in store for you in the 238 pages of the October 2017 issue of OVERDRIVE.

Electric Frankfurt

That was the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany. A gloss through the news section this issue is like looking through an automotive crystal ball. And the future is an electric one! Volkswagen leads the pack with a $ 84 billion promise of launching as many as 300 electric vehicle models by 2030. Mercedes-Benz shows off its F1-engined Project One, and all-electric Concept EQA compact, as well as the future-ready GLC F-Cell plug-in hydrogen fuel cell SUV among many other marques. OVERDRIVE also has an exclusive chat with Peter Schreyer about the design language of Kia Motors, which is about to reach Indian shores any minute now!

A Himalayan high

Back in the mountains for the second issue in a row? We would have you believe OVERDRIVE has a secret office hidden in the Himalayas. While that may not be the case, Leh certainly is our summer capital. Riding with us this time were ten girls and two boys for the TVS Scooty Zest Himalayan Highs season 3 on an adventure astride 110cc scooters. And we have all the details in this issue.

Cars

Rohit Paradkar gets an exclusive drive in the 2018 Volkswagen Polo in Germany while getting us all the details from Frankfurt. We also answer the big question of the year - if the Tata Nexon is better than the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. A scorcher from the past comes back in the form of the new Skoda Octavia RS 230, and the first Audi Q7 petrol-powered SUV is on test as well. The 2017 Verna was recently launched and we want you to know how it fares against the king of refinement, Honda City. Bob Rupani explains what sets apart a real SUV from the imitations.

Motorcycles

The new Triumph Street Scrambler is an urban enduro that intends to take the fight to the purveyors of the Scrambler brand at the moment, Ducati. Which one fits the bill better? You'll have to read our October issue to find out! And if mild off-road cred is not your cup of tea, we have the Italian pocket rocket, Benelli 302R on test too! From carving corners to eating miles, Abhay Verma takes the duo of cruisers from UM Motorcycles - the UM Renegade Commando Classic and the UM Renegade Commando Mojave out for a ride.

Motorsport

Motorsport editor Vaishali Dinakaran brings us a time travel through the 70-year history of Ferrari in racing and the Italian marques dominance, be it their first victory with Froilan Gonzalez, the glorious 1970s with Niki Lauda, and who can forget the Schumacher era! We also have action from the two MotoGP races at Silverstone and San Marino, and of course, we tell why the rise of youngsters in the Indian motorsport scene is a good thing.

Phew. Is that all, you ask? Of course, not. There are 238 pages of pure motoring waiting for you. And you will linger on every single one of them. We promise. Off to the stands to pick up the October 2017 issue with you, then!
