Hero MotoSports Rally Team and their 450RR motorcycle went to the 2019 Dakar. Their riders, Spaniard Oriol Mena, India's CS Santosh and Portuguese Joaquim "J-Rod" Rodrigues took the start in Lima. The team was upbeat - their preparation had gone well, the updated bike was settling in nicely and this was one of the shortest Dakars in recent history. Just 5,000km, all in Peru. Easy right? The actual rally was exactly the opposite with just over 40 per cent of the starters not being able to make the finish in Lima on Day 11. 5,000km, most of it the sand? That's a much harder Dakar than usual. Hero MotoSports did well though. Mena took a steady 9th place overall while J-Rod finished in the Top 20 as well. CS Santosh, unfortunately, had a huge crash on Stage 5 that ended his 2019 campaign.
