2019 Range Rover with 3.0-litre 400PS Ingenium petrol engine revealed

Land Rover has added  the new 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine to its flagship offering, the Range Rover. The British automobile manufacturer claims that the new engine offers improved performance and quicker response paired with better fuel economy. The Range Rover that is on sale in India presently comes with a choice between 3L diesel that puts out 260PS and generates 600Nm of torque and a 3L V6 petrol that produces 340PS and 450Nm of torque. The newly added Ingenium petrol engine in the Range Rover makes 400PS and 550Nm of torque. The company claims that this engine is capable of doing  0 to 100kmph in 5.9 seconds with top speed of 225kmph.

Land Rover mentions that the electric supercharger that delivers an instant boost by spooling in 0.5s up to 65000rpm, provides an impressive torque response, comparable with engines with much larger displacement. This has been achieved with the use of a twin-scroll turbocharger that has been paired with the continuous variable valve lift that boosts the power output by helping the new engine offer better performance without compromising on the efficiency. This has also helped in reducing the carbon emissions. Further, a new mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) powertrain that is paired with the new engine is based on all-new start/stop system that switches off when stationary and connects the engine with an electric motor. This system makes use of the energy generated while decelerating and stores it in a 48V battery that can be brought into use through torque assist.

The other changes that have been done to the 2019 Range Rover include updated headlight with sign post dimming  that identifies road signs and turns off the individual LEDs that could reflect back and cause glare for the driver. There is also a Tourist Mode that has also been added to the Pixel LED system, allowing a driver to select whether they are driving on the left or right-hand side of the road and adjusting the beam pattern accordingly. In terms of features, the flagship SUV gets the new Smartphone Pack that is offered as standard across the range with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. There are also  two new colour options, the Eiger Grey that replaces Corris Grey and Portofino Blue is now available instead of Loire Blue. There is also an options of the new 22-inch Gloss Black wheels, in addition to the existing 21-inch and 22-inch options.

"Continued investment in our engine manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton is delivering new clean and efficient engine technology for our customers, giving the greatest breadth of choice yet. The P400 MHEV option on Range Rover Sport, with its refined, purposeful power delivery, has been well received by UK customers so we anticipate a welcome reception to this addition to the Range Rover range of vehicles." commented, Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover UK.

The UK pricing of the Range Rover Sport HST start at £83,655 onward which makes it approximately Rs 75.94 lakh (excluding the import duty and taxes applied). We believe if Land Rover decides to bring the new Range Rover to India, it could happen sometime in 2020.
