09 Jul 2015 / 0

With the Honda Jazz being launched at a price that goes neck to neck with Hyundai’s Elite i20, we at Team OVERDRIVE have distinguished the features offered by both cars in each trim –

Hyundai Elite i20 vs Honda Jazz (1)

Engines

The Honda Jazz and the Hyundai Elite i20 come with petrol and diesel variants. Both the petrol variants run a 1.2-litre engine but the Jazz produces a peak power of 90PS and a peak torque of 110Nm while the i20 churns out 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque. Both get 5-speed manual gear boxes, but the i20 loses out on the CVT option that the S and V trims of the Jazz offer. The Jazz diesel runs a 1.5-litre motor that displaces 100PS of power with a peak torque of 200Nm and the Elite i20 uses a 1.4-litre engine producing 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque. The Elite i20 diesel and the Jazz diesel get a 6-speed manual transmission. Now that we know which car runs what, let’s get to the various trims that the manufacturers offer.

Jazz E vs Elite i20 Era

Both these cars offer the bare minimum features in these base trims. The major difference between the two being that the Jazz diesel comes with ABS and has rear power windows. The Jazz E petrol and the Elite i20 Era are priced at Rs 5.30 lakh (ex-Delhi). The diesel variant of this Jazz is priced at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-Delhi) and the Elite i20 Era diesel costs Rs 6.41 lakh (ex-Delhi).

Jazz S vs Elite i20 Magna

Again, the features are almost similar but for a few differences. Only the Jazz has a rear defogger, while the i20 has a headlamp escort function. The 5-speed Jazz S petrol is priced at Rs 5.94 lakh (ex-Delhi) and the CVT will set you back by Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-Delhi), while the i20 Magna petrol stands at Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-Delhi). The Jazz S diesel would cost Rs 7.14 lakh (ex-Delhi) while the diesel i20 Magna costs Rs 6.95 lakh (ex-Delhi).

Jazz SV vs Elite i20 Sportz

Starting from the Sportz trim (all the way to the Asta), the i20 gets turn indicators on the ORVM while the Jazz gets it only on the V trim. The Jazz on the other hand gets a multi-information LCD display next to the speedometer, an integrated audio system with a 12.7cm touchscreen and the Eco Assist system seen in the newer Hondas. Both offer drivers’ side airbags from this trim on, but only the Jazz offers a front passenger-side airbag. The Jazz SV petrol is priced at Rs 6.44 lakh (ex-Delhi) while the diesel variant costs Rs 7.64 lakh (ex-Delhi). The petrol i20 Sportz costs Rs 6.35 lakh (ex-Delhi) and the diesel is sold at Rs 7.50 lakh (ex-Delhi).

Jazz V vs Elite i20 Sportz (O)

The i20 misses out on some features in this trim when compared to the Jazz – a rear wiper, a leather wrapped steering-wheel and a first-in-segment paddle shift for the CVT variant. Both get alloy wheels from this trim on but only the i20 will be offered with a smart key and push-button ignition. The 5-speed petrol variant of the Jazz V costs Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-Delhi) while the optional CVT will cost Rs 7.85 lakh (ex-Delhi). The diesel variant on the other hand costs Rs 8.09 lakh (ex-Delhi). The diesel i20 Sportz (O) is priced at Rs 7.82 lakh (ex-Delhi) and the petrol variant at Rs 6.70 lakh (ex-Delhi).

Jazz VX vs Elite i20 Asta

Again the Jazz has a few more features over the i20 like Magic Seats and a spoiler, but loses out on the automatic headlamps present on the Hyundai. The petrol engine Jazz VX costs Rs 7.29 lakh (ex-Delhi) while the diesel would cost Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-Delhi). The i20 Asta diesel is priced at Rs 8.05 lakh (ex-Delhi) and the petrol variant is at Rs 6.93 lakh (ex-Delhi).
