Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the fastest SUV ever made

It is not often that SUVs are associated with the fastest tag as they are primarily large people movers. However, if you consider some of the special offerings like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Audi SQ5 and Jaguar F-Pace S, the notion may not be true. There is a new name that has been added in this niche muscle going fast club and that is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Jeep claims that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the fastest SUV ever made.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR with its V8 550PS motor takes a little over 4.5 seconds to reach 100kmph, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT does that in 4.4 seconds. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is faster than these two as Alfa Romeo claims that the Stelvio Quadrifoglio takes 3.9 seconds. Beating them all is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk as it takes a claimed 3.5 second to do the same.

What makes the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk an insanely fast machine is a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that puts 707PS and generates 875Nm of torque. Jeep claims that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can touch a maximum speed of 290kmph. This motor was also seen on the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat models and now have been plonked on the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk as if the SRT was not a crazy enough SUV.

This motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Jeep states that the components used in the powertrain have been designed specifically to handle additional torque output of the regular model. Jeep has also added a tweaked engine-cooling system by positioning water jackets between the cylinders, forged-steel crankshaft, forged-alloy pistons, high-performance Brembo brake system as well as a launch Mode on the Trackhawk model. The SUV also comes equipped with Jeep’s Quadra-Trac on-demand all-wheel-drive system with an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

It gets multiple drive modes such as Auto, Sport, Track, Tow and Snow which alter traction control, suspension settings as well as throttle response. The Trackhawk will be built at the Jefferson North Assembly plant in Detroit. While the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is not something that we will see in India anytime soon, we have the Jeep Compass that launches in August this year. Here is all the information that you need to know about the Jeep Compass.
