2018 Mahindra Marazzo: variants explained
Mahnindra has just launched the all-new Marazzo MPV in India at starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh. The new MPV is a premium offering by Mahindra that sits in the void between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta, two of the highest selling MPVs in India. The Mahindra Marazzo is the world's first automobile to use the combination of a body on frame chassis with a front wheel drive system and a transversely mounted engine and the same has been patented by Mahindra. The Mahindra Marazzo is powered by an all-new, four-cylinder 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 122PS and 300Nm of torque. The engine produces peak torque at 1,750rpm, but has been tuned to offer upwards of 170Nm of torque incrementally between 1,000rpm and 1,750rpm for better acceleration at low speeds.
The Mahindra Marazzo is available in four trims- M2, M4, M6 and M8. While we've highlighted the features that each variant offers, its notable that Mahindra has offered a host of safety features as standard. These include dual front SRS airbags, speed sensitive door lock and unlock and ABS with EBD. ISOFIX seats are also a standard feature in the Marazzo, emphasizing and promoting the use of child seats. While our first drive review will give you an in-depth look at how the Marazzo is to drive, the list below explains what each varaint offers.
This is the base Marazzo but contrary to popular perception about base variants, the M2 Marazzo is decently specced. On the styling front, the M2 variant os devoid of any chrome inserts. The grille is all-black and the headlamps are regular, multi-reflector headlamps and black, unpainted mirrors (with turn indicators). The absence of front and rear fog lamps is something that we wish was not the case. You get 16-inch steel wheels (with covers) and there's a rear defogger with a timer for added safety.
The interior is basic in terms of equipment and surprisingly, there's no audio system in this variant. The driver infotainment system is a 4.19-inch monochrome screen(displays avg fuel economy and distance to empty). The seat upholstery is fabric and with 60:40 split for the second row. The driver's seat is height adjustable which is a boon for short driver.
The aircon is operated manually but the second and third row AC system is similar to the one in the higher spec variants. There's only one 12V charging socket in the front console and one USB charging port at the rear. All said, and given the size of the MPV, the exclusion of a reverse parking sensor is a glaring omission. The Marazzo M2 is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom India)
Mahindra Marazzo M4
The M4 variant is an incremental step up to the M2. On the exterior, the M4 gets body coloured ORVMS and a Rod type antennae. You also get a Bluetooth enabled audio system with four speakers and two tweeters. There's an extra USB port, in addition to the 12V socket and rear USB port. The M4 variant will set you back by Rs 10.95 lakh (ex-Mumbai)
Mahindra Marazzo M6
The M6 is a substantial step up to the previous variant. It gets projector headlamps with follow me home function as well as daytime running lights. The grille gets chrome inserts that are shaped to resemble a shark's teeth. There's also a generous splattering of chrome around the body coloured door handles and the window line as well. The M6 variant is shod with 16-inch alloy wheels. There are front and rear fog lamps for added safety as well as a reverse parking sensor.
The interior looks a lot more upmarket with a 7-inch, feather touch infotainment system that has 1GB of internal memory. It supports video playback. It also gets Mahindra's Ecosense feature that displays economy driving parameters. Turn by turn navigation is displayed in the instrument cluster. The M6 also gets an Emergency call feature that automatically dials a pre-saved number in the event of an incident.
You also get voice recognition and SMS readouts. The driver information system in the instrument cluster is a 4.2-inch TFT screen that looks rich and has good resolution. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable and the seats are covered in a premium fabric. The M6 variant is priced at Rs 12.40 lakh (ex-showroom)
Mahindra Marazzo M8
This is the top spec variant and is loaded to the gills with features. The exterior looks a tad more premium, a fact highlighted by the larger, 17-inch wheels with a diamond cut effect. The 7-inch infotainment system has an easy to use, capacitive touch with Capsense and Haptics. The system also offers Android Auto and has 8GB of internal storage. In terms of convenience, the M8 is the only variant to get a reverse parking camera. Also, there are two USB ports at the front, instead of the single port on the lower variants. The power windows have a one-touch, express up and down function with anti-pinch feature on the driver's side. The Marazzo M8 retails at Rs 13.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
