2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift: Top five things that you should know

The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift has been launched in India. The Indian SUV manufacturer has priced the XUV500 facelift at an attractive Rs 12.32 lakh, ex-showroom, which is Rs 30,000 lesser than the previous offering. The changes that have been done on the Mahindra XUV500 include a design update and addition of more features. This time around Mahindra has also updated the 2.2-litre diesel motor and made it more powerful and torque-y than before. Here are the top five things that you should know about the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift.

New Design:

The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 is a facelift and not an all new offering. The changes done to the SUV make it look fresher compared to the previous model. The radiator grille is all new with a larger profile. It gets a piano black finish with chrome inserts, much like what you see on more premium SUVs. The headlight assembly gets a minor update in the form of a re-positioned LED DRLs. The top of the line variant comes with 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, that look much better and bigger (previous model came with 17-inch) than the one it replaces. Lastly, the rear profile that gets two design changes, the new busier triangular lights and the tailgate design with a chrome applique. There are two new shades on the XUV500 now, the crimson red and the mystic copper.

More features

The cabin of the refreshed Mahindra XUV500 does look similar without any substantial changes. However, it is when you close in on the details, you will see the piano black finish on the central console. It is a welcome change from the plastic-y feel of the previous, also not to forget the brown shade. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 also gets quilted leather tan seats with electrically adjustable driver's seat. The infotainment system gets newer apps while this time Mahindra has introduced a smartwatch app that can control various functions of the SUV.

The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 gets a sunroof too, one of the most popular features in this price segment.

Variants

The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 comes in five diesel variants including an optional pack and a single variant with the petrol motor. The W5 base variant has been priced at Rs 12.32 lakh, W7 for Rs Rs 13.58 lakh to 14.78 lakh, W9 - Rs 15.23 lakh to Rs 16.43 lakh, W11 - Rs 16.43 lakh to Rs 17.63 lakh, W11(O) - Rs 16.68 lakh to 17.88 lakh and the G petrol only variant priced at Rs 15.43 lakh. All prices mentioned here are ex-showroom.

Powertrain

The updated 2.2-litre powertrain now makes 155PS and generates 360Nm of torque between 1,750 to 2,800rpm. This motor comes with a new sixth-gen turbo with eVGT tech. The fuel efficiency figure for this motor as certified by ARAI will be 15.4kmpl, up from the earlier car's 15.1 kmpl. While these remain the specs for the premium variant, the lower variants will come with the older 140PS version. The 2.2 -litre petrol option remains unchanged.

Rivals

The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 competes with the likes of the Tata Hexa, Jeep Compass and also the Hyundai Creta in India. It is the Hyundai Creta that is priced the least at Rs 14.60 lakh, SX(O) while the most expensive of the lot is the Jeep Compass Limited diesel 4x4 at Rs 21.84 lakh.
