Hyundai Elite i20 N hatchback spotted on test on the Nurburgring - India bound?
The rumours are true! A Hyundai Elite i20 with N treatment was spotted on test doing rounds of the Nurburgring in Germany. The B-segment hatchback looked identical to the car on sale in India, however, some key features told them apart. The test mule of the Elite i20 N was equipped with larger 10-spoke alloy-wheels which were never seen on the India spec hatchback.
The side profile shows that the new hatchback rides lower and could be equipped with a stiffer suspension set-up. The disc brake set-up on all four corners appear larger than usual, and red paint on the brake caliper gives away its sporty intentions. The hatchback also gets five lug-nuts over the standard four lug-nuts and a dual exhaust tip - hinting at a power bump.
Speaking of power, the hatchback could be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is on offer in the European markets, although in a racier state of tune. That said, the N-treated hatchback will produce a power figure of over 200PS and the gearbox on offer could be a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch.
Internationally, the Hyundai Elite i20 N hatchback will rival the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the Ford Fiesta ST, however, if launched in India, the Hyundai Elite i20 N will not have a direct rival of its own and will create a niche for itself in the Indian automobile market. The hatchback could be priced close to the Rs 20 lakh mark.
