Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster unveiled: Produces 740PS and is drop-dead gorgeous
For those that thought the regular Lamborghini Aventador coupe just wasn't enough, the brand went ahead and launched the Aventador S coupe which had more aero, more tech and of course, more power. But then obviously, they couldn't just leave the Aventador Roadster without an upgrade, so they made this, the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster which will be showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This Lambo goes up against supercars like the Ferrari 488 Spider and the Audi R8 V10 Plus Spyder. Like the coupe, the Aventador S Roadster's got more of everything. To begin with, the naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 makes 40PS more than in the car it replaces, at 740PS which comes in at 8,400rpm, while max torque is rated at 690Nm at 5,500rpm. This thanks to further optimisation of the variable valve timing and the variable intake systems. The redline has moved up too from 8,350rpm to 8,500rpm. The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster's seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) transmission is said to offer gearshifts within 50 milliseconds. To put things into perspective, the blink of an eye takes around 300 milliseconds. 0-100kmph comes up in 3.0 seconds flat, which is 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe, but that's probably because the Aventador S Roadster weighs 50kg more. The top speed of both cars however, is identical at 350kmph.
The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster, like the coupe, gets four-wheel drive, updated active suspension, a four-wheel steering system and a new drive mode called Ego. This mode is essentially an individual mode which allows the driver to set up each aspect of the car as he wishes. The four-wheel steering is said to offer better low-speed agility and high-speed stability while the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) has been designed to offer more feedback and sharper turn-in. The Aventador S Roadster's also got an updated pushrod suspension, new rear springs and revised kinematics in the Lamborghini Magneto-rheological suspension to adapt to the four-wheel steering system. There's also a new variable damping system which optimizes wheel and body control for maximum balance. The ESC system has been updated too for more precise traction control and vehicle dynamics depending on the selected drive mode. When powering out of a corner, the system allows more torque to the rear wheels for a more fun, yet safe drive. The tyres meanwhile, are Pirelli P Zeros which have been specifically developed for the Aventador S, which wrap a set of 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the back.
Moving to the design, the front-end of the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster features the same bumper seen on the coupe, which looks more aggressive than the one on the outgoing car. The rear however is quite different from the coupe. Instead of the slatted rear-window on the coupe, the Aventador S Roadster has a bridge running from the window over the engine with either body colour and matt black painted carbon-fibre engine bonnet blades or transpired blades to show off that gorgeous V12. The carbon-fibre roof panels meanwhile, weight less that 6kg, and can be stored under the bonnet when one wants to soak in the sun.
And finally, the price. The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster has a â¬313,666 (Rs 2.42 crore) price tag, so when it comes to India, expect it to cost around double that with taxes. The first customers buying the car will take delivery in February 2018.
