More spy images appear of the upcoming Tata Altroz petrol
More spy images have appeared of the upcoming turbo-petrol powered version of the Tata Altroz hatchback. These photos show that the new top-spec Altroz won't have any major styling changes over the version currently on sale.
The Altroz is currently available with two BSVI-compliant engines, one petrol and one diesel., which should carry on as they are. The 1.5-litre Revotorq turbo-diesel 4-cylinder is a detuned version of the one found in the Nexon and makes 90PS at 4,000rpm and 200Nm at 1,250-3,000rpm. The petrol motor is the 1.2-litre Revotron 3-cylinder petrol, as seen on the Tiago, with 86PS at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 3,300rpm. Both come paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The BSVI Nexon recently received an updated 1.2-litre BSVI turbo-petrol which saw its power increase by around 10PS to 120PS, while torque remains the same at 170Nm. We think the Altroz could get a detuned version of this motor, with power figures around the 100PS. It is also expected that the turbo-petrol Altroz will come with a seven-speed DCT, and not with an AMT as on the Nexon. The carmaker will possibly source this gearbox from Punch, a specialist in affordable small-car DCTs. This turbo-petrol version, though, is not a JTP. We expect the turbo-DCT option to be available of the top trims of the Altroz.
There are four variants on offer, on both powertrain options with prices starting at Rs 5.29 lakh. This is for the base petrol version. The diesel version starts at Rs 6.99 lakh. Prices go up to Rs 7.69 lakh for the top-spec petrol and Rs 9.29 lakh for the top diesel. An EV version of the Altroz, with the Ziptron architecture from the Nexon EV, is also set to debut over the next year. This car was shown at Auto Expo 2020
