Volkswagen Ameo Cup recognized as National Championship by FMSCI
The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI) has awarded Volkswagen Motorsport's Ameo Cup, the status of a National Championship in India. The championship will now be called the Ameo Class but will continue to run in the same format as before. It will have more weight now given its newfound accreditation.
The series will have 10 races spread over four race weekends in the next five months. Volkswagen Motorsport will continue to partner with the Madras Motor Sports Club, who are promoters of the MRF FMSCI National Championship. The Ameo Class remains a one-make series like it has been for the last two years and its predecessors have been since 2010.
From this year onwards, the winners of the Pro and Junior categories will be recognized as National Champion of the Ameo Class Category. The first round of the Ameo Class will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway near Coimbatore between June 21-23. The second and third rounds will be held at the Madras Motor Race Track near Chennai and the last round at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport India said, "We are happy that the FMSCI has recognized the racing series we have been running over the years as a class of the National Racing Championship from this season onwards.
