2019 BMW Z4 roadster launched in India at Rs 64.9 lakh
BMW India has launched the new 2019 BMW Z4 roadster in India at Rs 64.9 lakh for the base sDrive20i variant. The top-spec M40i costs Rs 78.9 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom India for the CBU
The 2019 BMW Z4 for India will be available with two of the three engine options available internationally. The range-topper will be the M40i with its in-line six twin-turbo motor. This puts out 345PS and 500Nm. Top speed is 250kmph and 100kmph from standstill comes up in 4.5s. The claimed fuel efficiency figure is 12.82kmpl. The sDrive20i will be the other option for buyers here. This gets a 2.0-litre in-line four turbo with 200PS and 320Nm. BMW claims a 0 to 100 kmph time of 6.6s and a 240kmph top speed. The smaller motor means it returns a 14.37kmpl figure. These come paired with an eight-speed auto. Other features are sport suspension with variable sport steering, electronically controlled dampers, an M Sport braking system and also an electronically controlled M Sport differential, apart from the various drive modes. BMW also claims the Z4 has 50/50 weight distribution.
The design of the production-spec Z4 closely follows that of the Z4 concept seen some time ago. The car gets an aggressive front end with a prominent kidney grille and large air intakes. Most striking is the headlamp design, which ditches the signature BMW double-barrel look for a more angular design. The side profile gets prominent vents behind the front wheel arches which merge into a heavily contoured body. The rear also gets upswept tail lamps and aggressive vents on the bumpers.
The base version gets the Sportline exterior styling package while the M40i gets the M Sport package. This adds the M Aerodynamics Package, M exterior badging, elements in BMW Individual Black high gloss Shadow Line finish, door sill finishers with M designation and an M Leather steering.
The interiors follow the new theme seen in BMW's latest cars. so all the softer, rounded bits are now much sharper and more angular. The all-digital instrument cluster is another new touch as is the sharper angle of dash towards the driver. Notable features available on the M40i variant are a 364 watt Harman Kardon system and a HUD.
Notably, the new Z4 also gets BMW's suite of camera and radar based active safety tech for India. Available are pedestrian detection, emergency braking, rear collison warning, lane departure warning and cross traffic alert. Also present is an auto parking feature and adaptive cruise control.
The new Z4 fills a void left in the BMW line-up since the departure of the last-gen car. This new model seems to toe a more aggressive line than the last car as well, appeal also to the more traditional BMW buyers. This will help it compete better with rivals like the Porsche 718 Boxster and Audi TT. Expect the BMW to also match these cars closely in price, so a Rs 90 lakh figure seems likely.
