2020 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 BSVI launched: Top 5 things to know

Yamaha India had already been teasing the BSVI compliant iterations of the FZ 25 and the FZ S 25 on its website and social media platforms. The company recently announced the prices of both the offerings, which now start at Rs. 152 lakh, making it the most affordable 250cc motorcycle that you can buy in India. Both the motorcycles were unveiled earlier this year in February 2020 along with the company's other offerings such as the Ray ZR, Fascino, Street Rally and also the BSVI FZ and FZS Fi. Here's everything that you should know about the newly launched 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 BSVI.

Engine

Starting with the most important part, Both the offerings now come with a BSVI-compliant 249cc air-cooled, SOHC engine. This unit puts out 28PS of power at 8,000rpm and generates 20Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. These numbers are identical to what the BS-IV compliant unit made. This fuel-injected motor is mated to a 5-speed gearbox, as seen in the previous iteration.

Design

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 and the S models come with a subtle update in terms of styling which includes sharper tank extensions and also a more aggressive LED headlight design, updated instrumentation, cowl as standard and knuckle guard and a taller windscreen on the S model. The dimensions of both the motorcycles remain unchanged. Colours like the Metallic black and Racing blue are available on the FZ 25, while the higher S version gets options such as Metallic White, Dark Matte Blue and also Dark Cyan

Weight

Both the offerings, the Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 have become heavier by 1 kg, which could be due to the updated design or the BSVI compliant engine. Yamaha has not mentioned the reason for the same. The FZ 25 weighs 153kg while the S trim tips the scale at 154kg.

Price

Prices of Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 BSVI have been increased to up to Rs 16,200 compared to the BSIV models. The FZ 250 is priced at Rs 1.52 lakh, while the FZ S 250 is available at Rs. 1.57 lakh. With these prices, the base trim is Rs 16,200 more premium than BSIV version, the S trim has seen a lower price hike of Rs 4,800.

Rivals

With the new prices, the Yamaha FZ 250 twins have become the most affordable 250cc motorcycle, competing with the likes of the recently launched Bajaj Dominar 250, priced at Rs. 1.60 lakh and the Suzuki Gixxer 250 priced at Rs 1.65 lakh. Additionally, it will also lock horns with the KTM 250 Duke, Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen 250s and even the Jawa 42.
