A new motorcycle and a scooter expected from Piaggio at the 2020 Auto Expo

Aprilia has been trying to understand the 125cc-150cc segment two-wheelers in the India market since some time now, and Piaggio is one of the few manufacturers who will be marking its territory at the 2020 Auto Expo. With that in mind, it is safe to assume Piaggio has something in its bag for the India market. The reports online suggest the Italian brand will bring in a 150cc motorcycle and a scooter.

Earlier this year, Aprilia stated the RS150 and Tuono 150 will be launched in India by 2020. Which makes sense as they will rival the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3, KTM RC125 and Yamaha MT-15 and the KTM 125 Duke respectively. And could make a stronger case if priced aggressively. Both the motorcycles get a 150cc engine with 18PS of peak power and 14Nm of torque. The safety new will include ABS, however, it is to soon to say if the manufacturer will offer a dual-channel unit or a single-channel.

The second two-wheeler on cards is a scooter that the reports suggest is specifically developed for the Indian market. The scooter is expected to kick-start the maxi-scooter segment in India. The drivetrain is expected to be carried forward from the Aprilia SR150 while the body panels will be sizeably larger. The highlight of the scooter will be to offer the practicality of a commuter while offering the convenience of an automatic - meanwhile having a higher capacity engine at disposal for long hauls.

Most likely the newly unveiled Aprilia RS660 could be on showcase at the 2020 Auto Expo given the middle-weight segment in the Indian market is receiving some attention from manufacturers - such as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and the upcoming Ducati Panigale V2 and the Triumph Daytona 765.

Currently, Piaggio has a range of 125-150cc scooter under the Vespa and Aprilia umbrella which are yet to be updated to the BSVI emission standards. Although, we believe all the five models from Aprilia and 11 models from Vespa will not see the light of day in the BSVI era.
