Spec Comparo: Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza vs Tata Nexon vs Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Venue vs Ford Ecosport

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was unveiled at Auto Expo 2016. Back then the SUV was exclusively available with a diesel drivetrain, but this time at the Auto Expo 2020, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Vitara Brezza in the petrol guise. This strengthens the case of the Vitara Brezza with respect to its rivals.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol debuts in the space where we already see the petrol variants of the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and the Ford Ecosport. Let us find out how the compact SUV fares against its rivals when compared on paper.

Engine

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford Ecosport use naturally aspirated engines while the rest of the three, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300 use forced induction. However, the Ford Ecosport is also available with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is exclusively reserved for the higher trim levels. On the flip side, the Hyundai Venue gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that is available in the lower trims.

Drivetrain

The Mahindra XUV300 is the only compact SUV in the comparo that misses out on the convenience of the automatic. The XUV300, Venue and the Nexon get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while the Ecosport and the Vitara Brezza get a 5-speed gearbox as standard. The automatic variant of the Venue gets a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission while the Nexon gets an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

Power figures

The Ecosport boasts of the highest peak power of 122PS while the Nexon and the Venue follow it at 120PS. The Mahindra XUV300 gets an output of 115PS which positions it above the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that puts out 105PS.

Turbocharged SUVs in the comparo boast of higher torque figures with the Mahindra XUV300 boasting 200Nm of torque, which is the highest in the comparo.

Pricing

Currently, the Tata Nexon is the most affordable compact SUV in our comparo whereas the Mahindra XUV300 has the highest opening price. The top trim of the Mahindra XUV300 is also the most expensive one here that gets a price tag of Rs 11.99 lakh ex-showroom. The prices of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol are yet to be announced. We expect the petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza to be priced at around Rs 8-11 lakh ex-showroom.
