Elon Musk to bring Model 3 sedan, Model Y crossover and more tech to the Tesla line-up in 2018
For Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, the year 2017 was quite eventful. The Model 3, that is believed to the numbers churner for the all-electric automobile brand, made its public debut in production form this year. The highlight of 2017 for Tesla is the introduction of the Semi all-electric truck that has already been making headlines for its long range and also performance stats. Based on the Semi's platform, an all-electric pick-up truck too was announced with the release of a teaser image, that is expected to debut right after the Model Y is launched. And lastly the Tesla Roadster was launched in a new-gen avatar where it not only wore a new skin but also promised to be the fastest production car in the world. Here is what all we can expect from Tesla and Elon Musk in 2018.
Model Y Crossover

The Model Y is believed to be an electric crossover that will sit on the same platform that underpins the Model 3. However, Musk brought clarity by mentioning that the Model Y will be based on an all-new platform. This was then followed by Musk returning to the original plan. The only bit of information that was released by Musk about the Model Y was that it will feature 'Falcon Wing' doors like the Model X. The Tesla Model Y is expected to go into production in 2018. While there might be still some time before you can go ahead and book your Model Y, we believe that Tesla would unveil the production ready version this year. And the launch can happen somewhere in 2019-20.
Model 3 Sedan
Tesla unveiled the production-spec Model 3 this year. And the model is expected to enter production this year. The company will be catering to the ones who had reserved the Model 3 two years ago. The first lot of Model 3 will be offered with the long range battery along with premium interiors. This might not be a constraint anymore as and when Tesla goes full swing in production of Model 3, also offering more variants and configurations options that includes the base model, priced at $35,000. Tesla plans to sell 5,000 units of the Model 3 per week and then further increase it to 10k units per week at the end of 2018.
Model S and Model X

The Model S and the Model X are the two popular models from Tesla. In fact, the Model X has also arrived in India, though not officially but a private import. We expect the Tesla Model S and X to get a host of tech updates that will improve its range and comfort.
Autonomous tech
While 2017 was clearly a smooth sail for Elon Musk run Tesla. We believe this year Tesla will roll out significant updates in its autopilot program. This will be introduced in a phase manner in all the Tesla offerings. There is still some time before we see autopilot mode take charge of the vehicle completely. However, we expect Tesla to give a preview of things to come in the near future.
Supercharging stations and charging infrastructure
Tesla has already installed over 8,000 Superchargers and plans to have a total of 18,000 by the end of this year. While it does sound difficult to execute, we hope Tesla successfully completes the target. Since there are not many mainstream automobile manufacturers who have an all-electric portfolio, Tesla still has an edge over them, at least for the new few years when there will be multiple offerings to rival Tesla. The new range of Tesla cars are believed to have larger capacity batteries with equally longer ranges.
