New-gen Hyundai Elite i20 to be launched in India in October 2020
Earlier this year, Hyundai released sketches of the new-gen Elite i20 which was expected to be launched in September this year. However, we have come to know that Hyundai India has now pushed it to October 2020. And here are the reasons for it.
This year the Hyundai made two important launches, the new-gen Creta SUV and the Verna sedan. Launched in April 2020, the new-gen Creta was priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The company received closed to 30,000 bookings of the SUV in a month of its launch, also making the new-gen Creta a top performer for May 2020. This was an impressive feat, considering the challenging conditions that the whole automobile industry is going through. We have come to know that Hyundai wants to maintain the momentum on these two models.
Last month, the 2020 Verna facelift was launched in India at Rs 9.31 lakh, ex-showroom. Post COVID-19 relaxation, Hyundai India has received a strong demand for both these offerings. In an official statement, Tarun Garg, director, sales, marketing and service, Hyundai Motor India had commented, "We are also happy to report that we are witnessing encouraging traction for our products especially the 2020 Creta and recently-launched 2020 Verna. We have received close to 9,000 new car bookings and delivered over 5,600 cars to customers across the country in the last 22 days. In addition, our workshops have serviced more than one lakh cars across 530 cities in India during the same period".
Chennai lockdown issue
Last week Tamil Nadu Government announced a complete lockdown in Chennai and other neighbouring districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur. between June 19-30, 2020. Considering that Hyundai has a plant in Sriperumbedur that is a part of Kanchipuram district, the same has believed to have affected production.
Although, the company is adhering to all the guidelines and is only allowing the workforce to attend the plant who stay close by to avoid travelling. Additionally, as a part of Annual Maintenance Upgradation project, wherein the maintenance work is carried along with the upgradation of production lines for upcoming models, the plant operations were shut between June 15-19, 2020.
