Three SUVs that will compete with Jeep Renegade in India

Earlier this year, Jeep showcased the Renegade facelift for the international markets. The SUV received an aggressive front profile along with LED headlights with DRLs, that looks similar to the one offered on the new Wrangler. The bumper design was tweaked with a busier design. While the silhouette remains unchanged, the rear gets new lights and slight tweak in the bumper, all of which makes the new Renegade look sportier than before.

Jeep India is believed to launch the locally produced version of the Renegade in the country. In the five year plan that Jeep and other FCA brands presented recently, a new sub-four metre car is in the works for India in the coming few years. The Renegade, when launched in India, will sit above this SUV. While there is no official confirmation from Jeep India on the same, here are the three SUVs that are expected to rival the Jeep Renegade in India.

1) Hyundai Creta:

The Hyundai Creta is one of the most popular and highest selling SUVs in India. Earlier this year, the SUV received refreshed styling inside and out, as well as added features including a sunroof option as well as wireless charging for compatible smartphones. The new Creta comes with a larger chrome trimmed hexagonal front grille. The front bumper now has new fog lamp housings and a pronounced chin which merges into the front grille. The rear bumpers have also been redesigned while the taillamps have also received a subtle tweak. The facelifted Creta's powertrain options remained unchanged with the 1.4 diesel (90PS, 220 Nm), 1.6 diesel (128PS, 260Nm) and 1.6 petrol (123PS, 151Nm) being carried over.

2) Renault Captur

Renault Captur is presently the flagship SUV offering from the French car manufacturer. The company recently introduced a new Radiant Red shade on the SUV and has made roof rails a standard fitment on the RXT petrol, RXT diesel and Platine diesel variants. Renault Captur is available with both petrol and diesel powertrain options. The petrol models are powered by a  16 valve 4 cylinder 1.5L H4K petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gear box, producing 106 PS at 5,600 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Renault claims that this one delivers a mileage of 13.87 kmpl (ARAI certified). The diesel version is powered by the 1.5L K9K diesel engine mated to 6-speed manual gear box, delivering a maximum power of 110 PS at 3,850 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The diesel powertrain delivers a mileage of 20.37 kmpl (ARAI certified).

3)  Ford EcoSport

Yes, the Ford EcoSport might appear to be smaller than the other two, but with heavy localisation and an aggressive pricing, the base variants of the Jeep Renegade might end up locking horns with the Ford EcoSport. While the Ford EcoSport did recieve a styling and features update, the highlight was new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder Dragon petrol engine, replacing the 4-cylinder unit. The Dragon motor makes 123PS and generates 150Nm of torque. This motor can comes with a 5-speed transmission as standard or an optional 6-speed automatic. The 1.5-litre diesel continues to make 100PS/205Nm and comes mated with a 5-speed manual unit.
